While many are exchanging love letters and valentines today few know that today is National Organ Donor Day. Why today? Think...Hearts!
In 1967 the first heart transplant took place and today more than 3500 heart transplants a year take place around the world. Last year alone organ donation made possible over 28,000 transplants.
Even with this amazing number of transplants taking place each year it is estimated that over 100,000 people are on a transplant list waiting for some type of transplant.
There is no question I have a passion for this topic, as do many others, for a reason. Being an organ donor is one of the simplest ways to make a difference in the lives of others...and in most cases, MANY others.
While not everyone is able to become a living donor (even though my prayer is more would consider the possibility) everyone can become a potential organ donor. The impact can be substantial. A single donor can save up to 8 lives and can enhance the lives of several more through tissue donation. That is what "out live yourself" is all about.
This could be the truest act of love there is
