The Good News is life is filled with second chances. The opportunity exists to give them and to receive them.
At times, the person with the greatest need for a second chance is standing right in front of us and we miss the opportunity to give. It would seem logical, that if you were given a second chance at some point in your life you would want to give one...right? So why do they seem so rare?
The fact is we tend to hold on to things (read; feelings, grudges, disappointments, disagreements, etc) for extended periods of time. The longer we hold on the more difficult it is to release, leading to fewer second chances.
Over the years I certainly have been given more than my fair share of second chances and to some degree have offered many in return. However, even today I find myself with yet another skinned knee and in need of a second chance. While it may never come, I hold on to my Hope that this second chance won't pass by.
During my season of waiting I have made some observations. I offer these for others to consider in hope of avoiding and mending skinned knees.
Some simple thoughts on giving and receiving a second chance:
- Be appreciative, it helps to recognize out loud your appreciation to someone when you are given a second chance.
- Make a change, the art of receiving a second chance is to not repeat the first time.
- Let go, there are just some things that need to be released.
- Give one out, as good as receiving a second chance is it is better to give one away.
Onward!
